For Jewish readers, November is the kindest month. The month before Chanukah is Jewish Book Month, and Jewish institutions across America are showcasing books and authors on every imaginable subject. The gift-giving holidays are fast approaching, and many of those who attend Jewish Book Month events are also doing their holiday shopping.
Jewish Book Month is the occasion for events featuring hundreds of authors, ranging from the famous and venerable to the obscure and newly published. Here are some stand-outs among the many local Jewish book events in the weeks ahead.

Her best-selling comic memoir, “The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee,” is laugh-out-loud funny but it’s also a courageous commentary on the Jewish experience in America. After Silverman’s talk, she will answer questions from the audience in a session moderated by Teresa Strasser. The ticket price of $35 includes a copy of Silverman’s book.  and nonfiction for adult readers (“Necessary Losses: The Loves, Illusions, Dependencies, and Impossible Expectations That All of Us Have to Give Up in Order to Grow”) has now reached her 80s, a milestone that inspired her latest book, “Unexpectedly Eighty: And Other Adaptations.” It’s the latest in a series that Viorst has written over the years about the experience of aging, starting with “It’s Hard to Be Hip Over 30 and Other Tragedies of Married Life.” As part of the Celebration of Jewish Books, Viorst will be featured in conversation with Susan Freudenheim, managing editor of The Jewish Journal, on the AJU campus Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
