A prolific actor, comedian, director, producer, podcaster and writer, Matt Besser has been working steadily for well over 20 years. A co-founder of the Upright Citizens Brigade empire with Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh, Besser continues to help run UCB’s theaters on both the East and West Coasts beyond his successful career as a creator within the film, television and podcast realms.

“Pot Humor” is the new stand-up special by Matt Besser, as released by Comedy Dynamics. Said Comedy Dynamics CEO Brian Volk-Weiss – who I interviewed for the Jewish Journal last year – about Besser’s special in a prepared statement: “Cannabis and laughter are a match made in heaven.” Besser within the same prepared statement added: “It was a pleasure to perform for a fully baked audience, and even more of a pleasure to get baked with them. I hope our editing style for the special will have our home audience tripping out as well.”

A few weeks after the release of “Pot Humor” I had the pleasure of speaking with Matt Besser himself by phone. The full interview is embedded below. Besser also opened up about his Jewish roots, the feuding Besser families related to Besser Hardware, whether he is related to The Three Stooges’ Joe Besser, the principles behind the formation of Upright Citizen Brigade and what else he is working on.
