Polly Samson, an author and lyricists and the wife of Roger Waters’ former Pink Floyd bandmate David Gilmour, called Waters “antisemitic to your rotten core” in a February 6 tweet, with Gilmour later agreeing.

Samson’s full tweet from February 6 read: “Sadly @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core. Also a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.”

Gilmour later quote-tweeted his wife’s tweet and wrote: “Every word demonstrably true.”

Waters tweeted out a statement calling Samson’s tweet “incendiary and wildly inaccurate” and “is currently taking advice to his position.”

Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) Director Ari Ingel said in a statement to the Journal, “Roger Waters has a long history of promulgating antisemitic views, whether that is in his live shows, in his public interviews, or via his social media feed. Not to mention his vocal support for some of the most vile regimes in the world, from Putin in Russia to Maduro in Venezuela. Unfortunately, due to his stature as a famous artist, the conspiracy theories he peddles reach millions of people around the world, especially many impressionable young people. This is incredibly dangerous for the Jewish people, particularly with the growing rise of antisemitism once again. We are pleased to see that even among those who know him best, he is seen for what he truly is, an antisemitic bigot who is obsessed with the world’s only Jewish state.”

StandWithUs Israel Executive Director Michael Dickson tweeted, “I got some free advice for you, Roger. Quit with the Jew-obsession and change your ways!”

Israellycool Israel Advocacy Executive Director David Lange noted in a blog post that Gilmour is “no friend of Israel, having supported BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions] campaigns and anti-Israel initiatives. So for him, calling Waters antisemitic might be based on more than Waters’ public, anti-Israel statements, many of which Gilmour may even agree with.” This prompted Lange to speculate if Gilmour was “privy to Roger Waters speaking disparagingly about Jews in private.”
