What Happens at ILTM Cannes 2018? Part 1

ILTM 2018 Cannes The Global Stage #momentsthatmatterTravel Journalists on the VIP Media Program had interactions with many incredible hotel brands.

Our first media luncheon was at Relais & Châteaux property Bruno Oger La villa Archange in Cannes. I recently stayed at Auberge Saint-Antoine Relais & Châteaux in Québec City.

I was able to meet with the General Managers and top executives as well as re-connect with travel friends like Mark Ellwood from Condé Nast Traveler and Bloomberg. I met editors like Zhu Tong from Condé Nast China, Steven Bond from Destinations of the World News Dubai and Hill Choi Lee from South China Morning Post.

VIDEO: WHAT HAPPENS AT ILTM IN CANNES?

Walking the red carpet into the venue for the ILTM Global Forum – “The Year of Health and Wellness” in the Grand Auditorium at Palais des Festivals et des Congrès was magical. We went to the ILTM Welcome Reception at the Ambassadors Suite, Palais de Festivals which was sponsored by The Italian Tourist Board and had photo booth specials with the gorgeous Italian countryside.

Over the course of the conference, I went to many rooftop and penthouse parties where I learned even more about the top brands. At the Shangri-La Hotels event, I was able to see the team from Shangri-La Hotel, At the Shard, London

We finished our evening at San Telmo with Lucy Clifton and her team from Spotlight Communications who made my first experience at ITLM a dream. Their attention to detail was legendary and I was well prepared and organized to make the most of my time in Cannes at the conference.

Day Two, December 4, 2018 started with breakfast by Hilton Luxury & Lifestyle Group at Restaurant Mantel (Table 22) 22 Rue Saint Antoine, 06400 Cannes where we learned about the new Waldorf Astoria and Aston Martin partnership as well about the underwater Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and many other new and exciting properties. I cooked with a chef at the Conrad in Miami and recently filmed at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills

Each morning at the ILTM Media Centre, we had ‘In Conversation with’ or press conferences with big brands and destinations with top-line stories. There were five minute presentations by senior board directors, CEOs and/or Presidents with 15 minutes of questions from the floor.

Walking the floors of the conference halls I saw many travel friends in their booths and was able to make appointments to learn about the happenings with various brands.

We had glorious weather and enjoyed our luscious lunch hosted by Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts outdoors at the penthouse of Résidence 67 Croisette with live music and lively conversations. I recently had a hard hat tour of Four Seasons Philadelphia at Comcast Tower.

Our Afternoon Tea Networking sessions where in the First Floor Restaurant at the Palais des Festivals and were very valuable. I was able to meet with many hotels and brands in a short amount of time and learn about new stories in many locations. I meet with Edwardian Hotels, Sweet Bocas, Jumeirah Vittaveli and more.

As the sun set and the sky was full of magical colors, my journalism friends and I were able to participate in several cocktail parties and events including cocktails hosted by Cheval Blanc in the Majestic Suite, Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic, Cannes. We experienced VOGA Vogue Yoga with PROUD Experiences NYC. We went on Mabruk III for the Visit California yacht party. We had drinks with IHG lifestyle and design and I loved that every event in Cannes had live music.

It was another beautiful December day in Cannes and we started at the conference with ‘In Conversation with’ press conferences with many top luxury brands.

Walking the floors of the conference, I spoke with many luxury brands about upcoming hotel openings, story ideas and possible adventures.

Do You Want To Take Better Photos?

People often ask me what phone I have when they see the quality of my photos and videos. Actually it sounds something like this, “What phone is that? I am buying that next!”

I am now using the LG V40ThinQ and it is the 4th LG phone I have used for my We Said Go Travel YouTube channel which now has 850,000 views and 1.4 million impressions in 2018.

Nov News 2018 with We Said Go Travel:

I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday and time with the people who are important to you. My aunt and uncle hosted 48 family members for a wonderful dinner with not one, not two but three turkeys! Thank you to everyone who has asked about my mother, she continues to recover amazingly quickly from her fall and has a great attitude!

Ms Magazine Polar Bears Can't Vote So You Have toThank you to Ms. Magazine for publishing two more of my stories:

  • Polar Bears Can’t Vote, So You Have To!

Dr. Stephen Petersen, head of conservation and research at Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre, has only one word of advice for the environmentally conscious this week: “Vote.” …. Polar bears are at the top trophic level of the food chain, and climate change is having a massive impact on their lives. As their environments evolve, Petersen is calling for more marine protected areas and doing work to protect the denning areas where polar bears have their babies. But there are many species that need to be protected—birds in Papua New Guinea, orangutans in Indonesia and polar bears in the Arctic among them.

  • Are You Ready for the Feminine Revolution?

I have been told that I am too sensitive or too emotional. I’ve been told that I use too many capital letters. I have been told repeatedly that my emails scared someone, that I should tone it down to appear professional. (I was even named “Most Likely to Clap Her Hands for No Reason” in my high school yearbook.)

It’s true: I have always been enthusiastic and had more obvious feelings than others in a room. That’s why I loved reading The Feminine Revolution: 21 Ways to Ignite the Power of Your Femininity for a Brighter Life and a Better Worldby Catherine Connors and Amy Stanton, which flipped the narrative—and encouraged women like me to reframe old standards that have claimed that “traditional” feminine traits are weak or bad.

I am honored to write for this incredible magazine. My first print story for Ms. Magazine will be in the Winter issue.

Thank you to Ms. Magazine for publishing my story: “Reverse Mentoring with GenMaverick: The Five Best Lessons I Learned From Teen Feminists.” I was honored to be asked to be a mentor/catalyst for Maverick. This story is from the Maverick Live Summit in April 2018.

“At the inaugural Maverick Live Summit in Los Angeles, teens took the stage to celebrate the new app’s intent to empower young girls to use their voices—and shared honest stories about their paths to incredible accomplishments. From being on “Grown-ish” to being the first African-American woman ever to qualify for a U.S. Olympic speed skating team, the passionate young women who gathered in Los Angeles for the summit showed the crowd of teens that anything is possible and encouraged them to be creative and empowered.

Collectively and individually they told each other and the crowd: “Take risks! Dream big. Let your voice be heard!”

Video #9: Will I Love a Safari in Maasai Mara?

#9 Safari in Mara Triangle July 14 2018 and staying at Sanctuary Olonana with Sanctuary Retreats

Staying at Sanctuary Olonana in the Maasai Mara: the rooms are gorgeous, breakfast is fabulous and they even have challah in Kenya. They have everything at Sanctuary Retreats. Cross your fingers we see a rhino today. We have seen 4 of the Big 5 so far.

For our game drive with Duncan, we saw a large family of olive baboons and zebras. We went through Oloololo Gate and explored. We saw elephants, zebras, a lion and a lioness, a water buck, another large male lion, spotted hyena, another lioness, grey crowned cranes, warthog, kingfisher and many many more elephants. At the end of this video playlist are movies of several animals who we spent a lot of time watching: See more footage of elephants, giraffe, lions and baby animals.

Lisa Niver and Kelly in Kenya #AKTravelIn the afternoon after lunch at Sanctuary Olonana, we visited a Maasai village. Chief Richard said I could bring my hula-hoop. See the next movie for more of our adventures with the men, women and children of the village.

I went to see the Sanctuary Olonana Spa which has outdoor treatment rooms so you can hear the sounds of the river and hippos as you relax. Remember your bathing suit because you can go for a swim or sit by the pool.

Watch my video from July 15, our final game drive when we did see the black rhino.
Happy Travels! Lisa

Video #10Do you want to visit to a Maasai Village?

From Sanctuary Olonana, we went to visit Chef Richard’s village.
He told us—“ As you know, there is Big 5. Do you know what is the Big 6?” Maasai Warriors!”
He was talking to us about polygamy.
You can marry more wives if you have enough cows. 10 cows for 1 wife, 20 cows for 2 wives.
We watched the Maasai Warriors do their jumping dance.I taught them to hula-hoop.
One warrior laughed so hard—he fell down!
We took photos with the men and then went to visit the women and children in the village.
I danced with the women and shared my hula hoop with them.

Lisa Niver and Maasai Warriors Kenya #AKTravelI loved learning Maasai: Supa means HELLO!
The children came to watch the women of the village dance and sing.
We were invited into the men’s meeting house and learned how they make fire.
I bought several beaded bracelets from the craft marketplace.
Thank you to the village for sharing their time with us and inviting us into their homes.

Video #11Do You Want to see a Black Rhino?

#11 We saw a Black Rhino on Our Final Game Drive July 15 2018

We woke up at Sanctuary Olonana and I wandered among the beautiful trees on property.
Sanctuary Retreats, Abercrombie and Kent, AK Philanthropy and Sanctuary Retreats Philanthropy have a commitment to the communities where they are building and working. They use local staff, have an organic garden and involve the community to pick their projects. We were able to visit the school that was built by the teams in Africa. The Maasai village owns the land where Sanctuary Olonana is located and receives money for each room night.

On our safari game drives, we saw the great migration of the wildebeest, hundreds of elephants and so many lions.

Giraffe by Lisa Niver in Kenya #AKTravelSanctuary Olonana has recently been completely renovated and reopened. I have been learning to speak Swahili and Maasai. The staff has been teaching me new words and I can say THANK YOU! Asante Sana. I loved eating breakfast with a view of the river with hippos!

Duncan took us on our final game drive and we saw Maasai with their cattle and then we found the elusive black rhino! We saw all of the Big 5 during our adventures in Tanzania and Kenya. I loved being on safari with Abercrombie and Kent. I cannot wait for your to come on your bucket list trip and enjoy the amazing animals, friendly people and the vast landscape.

We were invited to visit a Maasai Village while we were staying at Sanctuary Olonana. I wanted to share the complete footage of the women dancing.

Lisa Niver as a Club Med GO Marge

Here was my “Smartest Travel” answer:

FUNDING TRAVEL (EARNING MONEY)

Work for Resorts/Cruise Ships

Lisa Ellen Niver of We Said Go Travel loved scuba diving, but she couldn’t afford to dive on her salary at the time. So on a friend’s suggestion, she applied to work at Club Med as a G.O. (an activity organizer).

“I had never heard of it before but sent in a resume and paid to fly to Florida for a group interview. They offered me the job but in Colorado. I wanted to go scuba diving but they needed a person in the kids club who could ski. She promised that if I went to the snow, next I would get underwater. I decided to go for it. I ended up at Club Med for a year and on ships for nearly seven! It was the most amazing way to travel, see the world and save money. I absolutely loved it.”

This smart travel move launched Lisa’s ongoing career as an award-winning travel expert who is featured around the world. To this day, she’s glad she took a chance and went to Club Med to ski when she wanted to go scuba diving. “You never know what can happen if you just begin.”

Shana Tova! I hope as the new year of 5779 begins you are filling your life with what is most important to you. I read this quote in the Stephen Wise Temple Yom Kippur Prayerbook:

“As civilization advances, the sense of wonder declines. Such decline is an alarming symptom of our state of mind. Mankind will not perish for want of information; but only for want of appreciation. The beginning of our happiness lies in the understanding that life without wonder is not worth living. What we lack is not a will to believe but a will to wonder.”

by Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel from “As Civilization Advances” in “God in Search of Man: A Philosophy of Judaism”

I hope your new year will be filled with wonder and wander!

Wondering Where to Wander in Montreal?

I explored Montreal for the first time during the Travel Classics Montreal conference in May 2018 during Montreal’s birthday (17 May 1642).

Last summer for Canada’s 150 birthday,  I wrote several articles for USA Today 10 Best about 10 unique places to visit10 places for an outdoor adventure and 10 sites to explore the history of Canada. These three articles were part of a group that created 150 things for Canada’s 150th! I have been working my way through all of these incredible things to do in Canada.

For our pre-conference experience, I stayed at Monville Hotel which had literally just opened its doors and was centrally located so we could walk to many attractions or for our dinner! I loved meeting their resident robot.

VIDEO: Staying in the brand new Monville Hotel in Montreal

We arrived into Montreal by Rail after several days in Québec City.

VIDEOTraveling on Via 1 from Quebec City to Montreal

Where did we go? What did we see?

*Museum of Fine Art

*Mount Royal

*HA with Francisco Randez:  They have two locations and great food

*Studio 16 and the Street Art Festival

*Pointe A Calliere

From my USA TODAY 10best article: “Most people don’t know that Montreal is one of the oldest cities in Canada, let alone North America. So, the Pointe-à-Callière Museum showcases Canadian history through both permanent and temporary exhibitions.  Permanent exhibitions provide insight on how Montreal began, how it was built and how archaeologists uncovered what the city was like before human settlement.”

*Cite Memoire for Montreal at Night definitely see as many of the 60 projections as you can!

*Escondite! I loved this Mexican restaurant! Thank you to Bernardo and the entire team Vive Mexico!

A highlight of my trip was discovering Jewish Montreal with Mélissa Simard on her Jewish food tour.

I tried something new: AERIAL YOGA. My instructor, Veronique´ Jalbert, at Club Sportif Maa was fantastic! I cannot wait to find my 2nd class.

From Terrified to Blessed: Skydiving for my Birthday

As the Winter Olympics begin, I think about the athletes and their great feats of physical strength and commitment to daily preparation to achieve their goals.  For my 50th birthday, I overcame 50 challenges that were new or adventurous and I was scared the whole time. The most amazing thing to me is that I kept saying yes. I never gave up. If I could call myself one year ago and explain everything that was going to happen, I would never have believed it. I was much more courageous than I imagined was possible.

Watch Lisa Niver on KTLA TVFor my birthday, I did something I have always said I would never attempt. I went sky diving. While I was very nervous and excited, I was also prepared for the challenge by my choices all year.

The day before my jump, I read Rabbi Naomi Levy’s book, “Einstein and the Rabbi,” while sitting on the balcony of my perfect room at The Pantai Inn in La Jolla. I strolled on the beach, watched the seals and sea lions playing in the water and then would return and read more.

Video: Sky Diving with GoJump Oceanside

Once in Oceanside at GoJump, it was necessary to patiently wait for  two hours until the clouds cleared. I nearly had too much time to contemplate Levy’s book, my life and if I really wanted to take part in this birthday gift to myself.

When Levy wrote, “Your soul wants to teach you about your strength. It wants you to believe in your abilities and your gifts. It wants you to lift up your head with pride and claim your birthright: the life that is yours to experience. Your soul wants you to follow it through times of darkness, through the fog and confusion.

I was not sure she meant jumping out of a plane but that was where my path had brought me and it was what was going to happen next.

In the plane, I sang to myself: Kol Haolam Kulo

The song means: “All the world is a very narrow bridge, and the thing is not to be afraid.” I knew in my heart that this is the life I want to live. I do not want to be fearful of so many things. I want to risk and make my dreams come true.

Levy writes:

Your soul will lead you to heights and to loves and to kindness.”

and “Everything has led you to where you are right at this very moment.”

I chose to believe I would live through this scary experience and I imagined I might even love it. If I let fear win and I never try, my life will be smaller. I want to grow and learn to approach new experiences with excitement instead of terror.

Levy says that “The soul wants you to be uncomfortable enough to strive for more, to grow and to learn and to see what needs fixing in this beautiful and broken world. Living with soul can keep you up at night. You suddenly start seeing the humanity in the eyes of strangers you were ignoring.”

Happy Birthday Sky Diving! I DID IT

I wonder where my journey will lead. Sometimes I am not sure that it is the right path but I feel better after reading about following the path of my soul.

The soul’s journey is never linear. It requires patience and perseverance. Just when you’re ready to give up, a door opens and you are granted the opportunity to step inside if you wish. You are invited to explore new realms that were previously locked to you. Were those turns you took back there wrong turns? Were those dead ends you reached worthless? Or were they all part of the “whole”?

I said the Shehecheyanu in the plane. It is a Jewish blessing for the first time we encounter something new or arrive in a new place or for me a new state of being. I was strapped to another human being with five points of connection and I am trusting him to guide us with his parachute safely back to earth.

Levy says we must learn to take soulfie’s instead of selfies!

If we can learn to take a soulfie, it may very well transform our lives. By making a decision to access and follow our souls, we begin a journey. It is a winding journey full of bumps and pits, stops and starts. Sometimes the road becomes flat and we can cover great distances. Sometimes we will get stuck in one place for what may seem like an eternity before we are ready to continue forward. Yes, there are times when we will get lost, when we won’t know what to do or which way to turn and it’s frightening and frustrating and we wish it could all just be easier. With soul it can get easier.

For a year, I have been following this path of fear and with each challenge I accomplish, my ability to handle fear is better. The hardest thing I did was take a mountain biking lesson at Northstar California Resort. I went down the mountain on a blue intermediate run on my first day and while at one point, I did cry, I never gave up and it was a great feeling of accomplishment. I thought about mountain biking a lot while waiting for my turn in the plane. I kept telling myself I can do it. I did that and I can do this. I want to do it.

Levy continues: “Life’s paths are anything but straight. And yet those winding paths, as frustrating as they may be, can lead us to a life of meaning and blessings. I pray you will choose to follow your soul on its journey.

I am following this path and I wonder what will happen next. I worry about parachutes not opening, bad landings and other horror stories but mainly I sing to myself and say the Sh’ma. “Hear O’Israel the Lord is our God, Our God is One.”

Sky Diving is amazing!I believe that I am being lead. I have made it here and my job for this day for sky diving is to remain as calm as possible and enjoy this incredible opportunity.

As Levy says: “It isn’t easy to make the journey from narrowness to a vast expanse. But we all want to wake up from our sleepwalking. We all want to topple the barriers that are standing in the way of a full life.” I do know I want a full life and by testing my limits and not letting fear win that is what I am getting. I am sure there will be more tests, challenges and scary ideas to conquer. I did jump out of a plane and fly like a bird and I will be able to overcome what comes next.

Within you are powers that you haven’t even begun to tap into. There’s a purpose to your life. A high purpose…You can lift yourself up. And as you lift yourself up, you will lift others up too. May you live to turn your curses into blessings, your fear into strength, your greatest block into your greatest opening. Amen

Why Ogden?

Ogden’s motto “You cannot go anywhere without coming to Ogden” is related to a time 150 years ago when the railroad across America first connected our country.

There was a railroad from Omaha to the East coast but in order to increase the economy there needed to a faster way to bring produce from California to the other side of the country.

It used to take three to six months to travel by covered wagon what would take 8 days on the train. Getting your cattle to market or oranges on the dinner table was possible with an 8 day journey but not with a 3 month journey. The train changed everything. In Ogden, you could dine on oysters from the California coast and steak from Omaha. New York City could have fresh oranges! Not only was commerce changed by the connecting of the continent by rail but also communication. Telegraph poles were run along side the tracks and mail was carried in the cars.

Every single president stopped in Ogden to change train lines on his way from one coast to another. Every Ambassador on their way to Washington Dc and movie star going to New York City made their way through Ogden.

The Union Pacific Railroad was built by mainly Irish workers starting in Omaha and moving west. The Central Pacific Railroad needed the knowledge of over 10,000 Chinese workers who could dynamite their way through the mountain passes. Union Pacific Train 119 moving west burnt coal and brought beer and The Jupiter Central Pacific #60 burnt wood and brought champagne when the rails met May 10, 1869 at Promontory Summit for the Golden Spike ceremony.

What is there to do in Ogden Utah? The names of the Central Pacific leadership include Leland Stanford who was a miner and then governor in 1861 and was Central Pacific’s president. Collins Huntington was a trader, part of the railroad leadership and now his legacy includes the Huntington Museum.

Before the trains, there were over 300 time zones in the United States. With 100 trains coming through Ogden every day, it was necessary to know which train was arriving at what time. Four standard time zones for the continental United States were introduced at noon on November 18, 1883, when the telegraph lines transmitted time signals to all major cities. In 1918, one hundred years ago, Congress passed the standard time act which made the time zones official.

Engineers were watching the track and needed to know when trains would arrive as there was a single track and trains moved in both directions. Time became life and death and pocket watches became all the rage.

How do you get to Ogden?

Fly into Salt Lake City from Los Angeles or Burbank. It is less than a  two hour flight and there is a one hour time difference. It is about 35minute drive to downtown Ogden.

Skiing in Ogden

There is a Ski3 pass which gives you a day at each of the 3 resorts and is 30% savings. The Ogden Valley is one of the most accessible, family and budget friendly ski areas in the country.

What is there to do in Ogden Utah?

Lisa Niver at Nordic Valley Resort, 2018

Nordic Valley Resort opened 50 years ago in 1968. It is the perfect place to take lessons and get comfortable on the slopes. Nordic Valley was one of the downhill training ski areas for the 2002 Winter Olympics. There are 140 acres of terrain for skiers and boarders with 3 chair lifts: Apollo, Bridger and Crockett. There are after school programs for elementary school students and 80% of the lessons here are for “Never-Evers!” Stop by on Sunday for prime rib at the lodge. Thank you to Dave Mariani for the lessons in both skiing and Nordic Valley History! If you are ready to really learn to ski, he is waiting for you.

Come join us in the snow at Snowbasin Resort, 2018

Snowbasin Resort has 3000 skiable acres and 3000 feet of elevation. There are 106 trails and stunning gold chandeliers imported from Italy. The three lodges were upgraded for the 2002 Winter Olympics and are ready for your enjoyment. There are five terrain parks with 65 rails. It is one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in the nation and started in 1940. I skied all day in falling snow and it was magical. I loved my instructor, Phil Miller, and his life lessons. My favorite run of the day was Herbert’s and I was proud to challenge myself and crush it!

There are monthly themed dinners all year long with elevated dining. In the summer, come for hiking, biking and Sunday brunch with a free concert. And don’t forget to bring your dog! When you take the gondola, you can see the flags of Olympic gold medalists and their names. Remember there is a vast variety of terrain here so everyone in your group can find the right spot to enjoy.

What is there to do in Ogden Utah?

Lisa Niver at Powder Mountain 2018

Powder Mountain’s 8000+ acres is located in the town of Eden and if you are looking for powder this is your eden to discover. Only 1500 tickets are sold per day which means this location has the highest ratio of skiable acres per skier of any resort. It opened in 1971 and in 1984, was the first Utah resort to allow snowboarding. If you are looking for powder, this is the place to explore! There are two new lifts adding 1000 acres of terrain. I loved Hippie Hill which is now accessible by both Village and Mary’s Lift.

What is there to do in Ogden Utah?

Powder Mountain 2018

There was great groomed corduroy and our first three runs all had Western names: Shot gun, Winchester and Kwick draw. My instructor, Loel, had been teaching for more than 4000 days and had many great secrets to share about powder skiing. I loved this one the most: “Look where you want to go, not where you do not want to go!” I also learned that you can “Turn shop.”  As you go through the trees, you can find your way and slowly pick the right place to turn. There really is magic at Powder Mountain. As Loel says, “Skis are your chariot to take you wonderful places.” There is no snow making at Powder Mountain. It is all natural snowflakes and it is fantastic. I cannot wait to go back and ride the snow cat and explore more of the terrain.

From the top of Snowbasin Resort and Powder Mountain you can see four states: Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada.

What is there to do in Ogden Utah?

We are waiting for you at The Shooting Star Saloon, Photo by Kerri Zane

What to do?

Go to the oldest bar in Utah which is called the Shooting star saloon. It was open during prohibition because the husband and wife owner’s took turns going to jail! There are items on the secret menu including the Super Star burger and the Porn Star burger but if you want it, bring your own egg! There have only been 7 owners since 1847 and it is an experience! Ask to hear the story of the dollar bills on the ceiling.

Do you love craft spirits? Take a tasting tour through New World Distillery with the owners, Ashley and Chris. They have Oomaw GIN, Rabbit and Grass AGAVE SPIRITS, Blanco, Wasatch Blossom Utah Tart CHERRY LIQUEUR, New World Distillery’s Uncharted Series BARREL-RESTED GIN. They sell their liquor as well as mixers so stop by and create your own party!

What is there to do in Ogden Utah?

Selfies in the Snow at New World Distillery

In Ogden, there is something to do all year long. Come for the Summer Rodeo on July 24 and enjoy Pioneer Days. There is a balloon festival in Eden in August and there is great food and drink all year long.

Try out the hidden gem, Daily Rise Expresso which has two drive throughs in Ogden and in Layton which you pass on the way to Antelope Island which is in The Great Salt Lake and is filled with antelope and buffalo!

Are you looking for something really different?

Try out Social Axe Throwing. Imagine darts on steroids and you begin to imagine your time axe throwing. You play indoor and on a team and it is AWESOME! Who doesn’t want to throw axes?!?

What will you name your team? Smart Axes? Kiss My Axe? or Are you checking out my Axe?

Smart Axes v. Short Axes at Social Axe Throwing

Where to EAT?

Zucca Ristorante like many restaurants in Ogden is locally owned and you will likely meet the owners during your visit in many of the shops, restaurants and activities in the area. Enjoy authentic Italian Regional Cuisine with a modern approach and seasonal organic menu on Ogden Utah’s Historic 25th Street with art-deco inspired decor, and a beautiful atrium exclusive to Zucca.

I also loved Farr better Ice Cream which has been in operation since the 1920s!

Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton in Ogden, Utah

Where to STAY?

Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton is your historic choice in Ogden!

Originally named Fort Buenaventura, Ogden, Utah was founded in 1845 making it the oldest settlement in America. With its longstanding history, a lot of events have taken place in this small, but distinguished city. Although the settlement was founded in the mid-1840s, it wouldn’t be until 1869 when the city would really begin to flourish. With the completion of the transcontinental railroad, the city grew into a profitable community. Ogden became a major railroad town with nine rail systems. The system operated as both a north-south and east-web hub. Soon after, the system also adapted intermountain west crossroads, which was inevitably called Junction City. The railroad system sat in the center of Ogden’s continual growth. Some of the first industries that flourished were livestock yards, canneries, flour mills, breweries, iron works, banks, woolen mills, hotels, telephone, telegraph and power companies.
