New, Highly Advanced Control Tower Coming to Ben-Gurion Airport

This summer is expected to be the busiest in the history of Ben-Gurion Airport (TLV). Tourists may not be coming in record numbers, but millions of Israelis will surely be traveling in and out of the holy land, creating plenty of traffic. Airplane traffic at Ben Gurion is expected to rise 10 percent – five times that of the average worldwide rise. To prepare for this jump, Ben Gurion Airport has recently begun operating its new control tower, which is one of the most sophisticated in the world.

Taste What’s Cooking in The Kitchen Food-Tech Incubator

The rich aroma wafting from funding, mergers and acquisitions of food technology companies in 2015 worldwide reached $5.7 billion. Although most food-tech focuses on advances in preparing, ordering, delivering and purchasing edibles, the world’s only food-tech incubator – situated in the Israeli coastal city of Ashdod — is working toward making the world’s food chain more productive, affordable, sustainable and healthful.

Israel’s IDC to Start New Entrepreneur Study Program

Israel’s IDC Herzliya will start a new program in October to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, the institute for higher education said. The one-year program for holders of a BA, called IDCBeyond, will include a curriculum of interdisciplinary training in technology, biomedicine, globalization and sustainability and at the same time will encourage participants to set up ventures from the very start, with the assistance of mentors from academia and industry.

Ultimate Family Bike Maker Raises $1 Million in One Day

The Taga Ultimate Family Bicycle  raised more than $1 million in its first 24 hours on Kickstarter, making the Israeli design and engineering firm behind the campaign the undisputed kings of May crowdfunding campaigns.  The Taga 2.0 family bike is actually the second in a series. The idea for the Taga Bike first came about in 2007. By 2008, a production line in Taiwan was inaugurated and by the following year the Taga 1.0 convertible bike-stroller was selling in more than 40 countries.

Microsoft Opens Third Research And Development Center In Israel

Software giant Microsoft has inaugurated a research and development center in the Galilee city of Nazareth, Israel, its third in the Startup Nation. Located in the heart of Nazareth, the new center is joining those in Herzliya and Haifa, which employ more than 1,000 people. Developers at the new Nazareth center – a few dozens in the initial phase – will work on major projects involving cyber-security, big data, business intelligence, cloud storage, and personalization.
