Is an Israeli-Syrian War Next?
One cannot ignore increasing signs of friction on Israel's border with Syria, writes Benedetta Berti for the Institute of National Security Studies.
Lately, even the ceasefire line with Syria, after decades of calm, has become an issue of potential concern for Israel. In the past weeks, the ongoing internal war in Syria repeatedly spilled into Israel. Although these episodes were not the first instances of errant Syrian mortars shells landing into the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, what changed in the past few weeks is that the Israeli army decided, for the first time, to fire back.
A source of condemnation, not pride
Tariq Alhomayed of Asharq Al-Awsat lashes out at Hezbollah for its efforts to send weaponry to the Gaza Strip.
This suggests that Hezbollah’s involvement in the transfer of arms, and in smuggling them to our states, is a continuous process, with the help of Iran and the al-Assad regime before the Syrian revolution. The purpose of this is to ignite proxy wars in our region, and to destabilize the security and stability of Egypt and Jordan and others.
