A Moment in Time: Not Taking Our Freedom For Granted

[additional-authors]
July 5, 2019
Dear all,
This photo above is of myself with my Grandpa Phil. It must have been around 1976 or so.
Grandpa was the one who pushed us on the swing so hard that grandma would tell him to cool it.
Grandpa was the one who bought us cotton candy when mom told him not to.
Grandpa was the one who would insist all his descendants come hell or high water to make it to Passover, Thanksgiving, or any other family gathering.
And Grandpa was the one who, every year, read the Declaration of Independence to the entire family each Fourth of July morning.
“Don’t ever take our freedoms for granted,” he would remind us.
Each year, our family continues the tradition of reading the Declaration. This year, I hope you will read it as well. While the message of the document is timeless, the decision to read it takes a moment in time.
Ron joins me in wishing you a joyful day to celebrate our freedoms!
With love and Shalom,
Rabbi Zach Shapiro
