Jewish Genealogy
The Red Star Line transported 2.7 million people from Antwerp to American ports from 1873 to 1934, and it is estimated that half of its emigrant passengers were Jewish. Antwerp artist Eugeen Van Mieghem made a cycle of works about these Jewish emigrants. Erwin Joos, curator of the Eugeen Van Mieghem Museum, will discuss “One Foot in America: Eugeen Van Mieghem (1875-1930) and the Jewish Emigrants of the Red Star Line.” Light refreshments will be served.
