A Moment in Time: Reaching Milestones

Dear all,

This week I became a “Doctor of Divinity” – honoring my 25 years in the Rabbinate. It’s a great milestone, and I have been so touched by the outpouring from the community.

While the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion bestows this degree to its alumni, I realize that each of us should make opportunities to honor important life moments in time.

How do we mark significant birthdays?
How do we mark retirement?
How do we mark changing jobs?
How do we mark sobriety?
How do we mark moving into a new home?
How do we mark the years of a special friendship?
How do we mark the journey of our various affiliations?

How do we mark the recovery from an illness?

We all need rituals to honor these milestones. They deeply impact our lives, and they create a chain of holiness for our future!

With love and Shalom,
Rabbi Zach Shapiro
