My dreams like life are full with you
God, an apartment whose door opens
to you
Your father a tree in a grove
of fathers
You a tree in the forest of our fathers
You told me to name my trees
This a loved teacher once
taught you
At the end of a table long and dusty in light and books
The windows sheets of frost
I want
somehow you
Last night at the wedding of Russian Jews round with light feet
They kicked happiness in thick voices they sang the wedding prayers
My thoughts of you
saying we have many voices
I didn’t know I knew myself then
Leaving for the East with nothing but faith and age
