After years of waiting weeks for orders to come from the other side of the globe, Amazon.com will open an office in Tel-Aviv, as announced by the company’s chief technology officer this past week. The office, expected to open at the start of 2014, will support the company’s cloud computing offering called Amazon Web Services.

“F” in spying for Israeli birds

After catching a white stork in Egypt last September under the accusation of being an Israeli spy, and making similar accusations about 14 squirrels in Iran, Israel’s enemies continue to make fools out of themselves: Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV has published images of an eagle, allegedly armed with spy equipment inscribed with the word “ISRAEL.” As it turns out, the bird was hatched in the Carmel Hai-Bar Nature Reserve during the spring of 2011 and was released from captivity in December of the same year. The “spy equipment” on its leg is, of course, a tracking devise meant to help scientists track bird migration routes.

Israel in HD, 2013

This week, nine leading Instagrammers from around the world will visit Israel and take part in the 2013 Once in a Lifetime project.  The project is an outcome of the StandWithUs Fellowship program, a branch of the non-profit pro-Israeli organization, StandWithUs.  For the second year in a row, “Once in a Lifetime HD” will bring leading Instagram users from around the world to tour Israel for eight days, capture its various faces, and share with their millions of followers.
