A roundup of the most talked about political and global stories in the Jewish world this week:

Egypt attack
New Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has a problem on his hands after a “” title=”http://www.thejewishweek.com/news/israel-news/attack-seen-testing-egypt-israel-relationship” target=”_blank”>disrupt Morsi’s new Islamist government. Mosi ” title=”http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/colbert-king-irans-anti-semitism-makes-it-the-greatest-threat-to-jews/2012/08/10/75126d28-dcfa-11e1-af1d-753c613ff6d8_story.html?wprss=rss_todays-opeds” target=”_blank”>said Colbert King in The Washington Post. And there’s reason to worry, ” title=”http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/2012/08/in-jewish-vote-push-romney-announces-fl-ad-bashing-obama-over-jerusalem.html” target=”_blank”>according to reports. “Romney needs to chip away at the different voting groups that helped Obama win. Obama needs to hang on to every single one.  That’s why a brief detour to Israel makes all the sense in the world,” ” title=”http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/post/obama-couldnt-go-to-israel/2012/08/06/d443add8-dfd5-11e1-a19c-fcfa365396c8_blog.html” target=”_blank”>said Jennifer Rubin at The Washington Post. “Obama couldn’t go to Israel because he’s wildly unpopular there (at one time, his approval rating was under 10 percent in Israel) and the last thing the U.S.-Israel relationship needed was for there to be protests, booing, etc.” He’ll have to find other ways to win back his Jewish constituents.

Raisman’s stand
Even in the second week of Olympic play, some people ” title=”http://www.sun-sentinel.com/florida-jewish-journal/opinion/fl-jjps-morris-0808-20120808,0,2162522.story” target=”_blank”>she said. But one gymnast rose to the occasion—Ally Raisman. ” title=”http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2012/08/lollapalooza-going-to-israel-in-2013.html” target=”_blank”>take Tel Aviv next year. “When I was (in Tel Aviv) last year, I saw an international music community that knew all about the music that we all listen to, and the artists weren’t traveling there,” Farrell said in a recent video interview. “It was an opportunity for us.” It will happen from August 20-22 in Yarkon Park. Farrell could run into some difficulties in lining up bands, ” title=”http://israelity.com/2012/08/06/lollapalooza-coming-to-israel/” target=”_blank”>said an Israelity blogger.
