How would you like to add a little spice to your art? Just raid your pantry for spices and turn them into a base for watercolors. You’ll be surprised at the vivid colors they can make. This is also a handy way to create your own paints when you don’t have time to go to the crafts store and want to experiment with what you have in your cupboards. And here’s a bonus: your paintings will be scratch ‘n’ sniff.

What you’ll need:
Spices
Disposable cups
Water
Brushes

1. Gather spices from your pantry. The best spices are those in powdered form like turmeric or cinnamon. Leafy spices such as oregano don’t impart as much color.

2. Spoon about half a teaspoon of each spice into a paper or plastic cup. Label the cups so you can keep track of the spice in each cup.

3. Add about two teaspoons of water to each spice and stir. You may want to adjust the spice to water ratio as you mix. There is no exact science to the measurements.
