Over 25 years into a career in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. Per the New York Times wrote, Gulman “is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.” A product of Boston, Gulman was a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher prior to making it as a comic.

Gary Gulman has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor, and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program. Currently on his “Born On 3rd Base” Tour — in which he hilariously chronicles his impoverished childhood on food stamps, free lunch and welfare checks while skewering our current “Tale Of Two Cities”-esque wealth gap — Gulman recently a sold-out show at the prestigious Carnegie Hall for the New York Comedy Festival. To date, Gulman has made four masterful TV specials, including 2019’s acclaimed HBO-aired special “The Great Depresh”; 2019 also saw Gulman appear in the blockbuster film “Joker.”

2022 is anticipated to feature Gary Gulman in the Hulu comedy series “Life & Beth” – which also stars Amy Schumer – along with his first book, “K Through 12,” via Flatiron Books. On December 14, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Gulman via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond his upcoming projecs, we also discussed some David Lee Roth’s “militant Judaism,” his current residence in Harlem, and why he has so much time and patience for young comics.
