What was extraordinary about MLK, and what has been lost today, is his unifying faith in the ideals of his country. King didn’t fight America’s ills by crushing the nation’s self-esteem but by doing the reverse. “You’re better than that,” he told us, and many of us listened.
What I saw over four weeks is an Israel that is in survival mode. It has no choice. The less I talked about it, the more I felt it.
This hollowing out of academia’s ideals– such as excellence, meritocracy, diversity of views and the search for truth— has hit the Jews especially hard.

For the Jewish community at least, it’s hard to recall a year that has triggered (and continues to trigger) as many emotions, especially for those of us who are close to Israel.

These security threats have been so all-consuming, and the human losses so devastating, settling for simply survival would seem to only compound the losses.
The only miracles we should settle for are the sober, humble ones; the miracles where we must slowly and deliberately light one lonely candle at a time.
It is this quintessential Jewish idea—refusing to settle for easy victimhood—that most threatens the anti-America, victim-worshipping DEI movement that is poisoning American culture.
