Max Palevsky, computer wiz, art, furniture collector, dies at 85

Every time I drive on Sunset through Beverly Hills, I glance south at a certain turn in the road toward the home where I once met Max Palevsky, probably the most smartest, most eccentric and yet most successful man I’d ever met. He had an amazing art collection—some of it of Modernist masters, but also Los Angeles artists—and an even more amazing American decorative arts collection. But when I saw the line of about 15 gorgeous eyeglass cases lined up on his bedside table, I knew that I was in the presence of a true collector.
