Symposium on caring for survivors set

A symposium on caring for Holocaust survivors will bring together specialists from around the world. “Perspectives on Caring: Current Practice, Future Trends,” hosted by of Nazi Victim Services of Selfhelp Community Services and co-sponsored by the UJA-Federation of New York and the Claims Conference, will be held in New York City this week. Health care professionals, psychologists, authors, educators and social workers are set to attend what is being called the most comprehensive Holocaust survivor care symposium of its kind.

Bank Leumi settles on payout to Shoah heirs

Bank Leumi has agreed to pay nearly $37 million to the heirs of Holocaust victims and to projects that help Israeli survivors. The Israeli bank reached a settlement Sunday with Hashava-The Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims\’ Assets, a company started by the Israeli government in 2006.

Facebook to monitor intifada page, won’t remove it

Facebook will monitor a page calling for a third Palestinian uprising against Israel but will not remove it. \”Third Palestinian Intifada,\” established on Facebook less than a month ago, calls for a third Palestinian uprising to begin May 15. The page, which as of March 27 had more than 330,000 friends, includes quotes and film clips calling for killing Jews and Israelis, and for \”liberating\” Jerusalem and Palestine using violence. It also directs users to related content on Twitter, YouTube and elsewhere.

Report: U.S., France nixed Kerry visit to Syria

The Obama administration and France reportedly nixed a visit by U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to Syria. Kerry (D-Mass.), the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has cultivated a relationship with the regime otherwise treated as a pariah in the West in the hope of drawing it away from Iranian influence.
