Dear all,

Our family visited the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History last weekend. As I looked at this depiction of dinosaurs, with their long necks, it make me think about times we stick our necks out for people or for causes.

It’s not always easy.

It can make us vulnerable.

It can put on on the defense.

It can cause us to be under a microscope.

And … it can also put us on the right side of history.

We can’t stick our necks out all the time (lest we become extinct ourselves). But perhaps there will be a significant moment in time when we do. And so we think deeply about what’s important to us. And we act accordingly so that the world can be a better place.

(Sigh – when we got home, Eli shared that he wanted to see a real dinosaur. He then asked me if I knew any when I was a little boy.)

With love and shalom,

Rabbi Zach Shapiro
