Violent clashes erupt between Israelis, Palestinians near Nablus

One Israeli and a number of Palestinians were wounded Monday when clashes broke out on land between a West Bank outpost and a nearby Arab village. The Israeli was lightly wounded when struck by a rock hurled by a Palestinian during the clashes, Israeli Radio reported. Of the Palestinian casualties, at least one was lightly wounded in his leg, apparently from a gunshot fired by Israeli security forces at the scene.

Israel negatively viewed, survey finds

Israel is one of the most negatively viewed countries in the world, an annual BBC global survey found. Israel was the fourth most negatively viewed country, ranking just ahead of Pakistan, North Korea and Iran, according to the poll released Monday. In answer to the question \”Please tell me if you think each of the following countries is having a mainly positive or mainly negative influence in the world,\” 21 percent of people interviewed for the survey viewed Israel mostly positive, with 49 percent mostly negative. The rest were neutral or undecided. Results from Israelis polled were excluded.

Rockland JCC to open on Shabbat

A Jewish community center in New York State has decided to open its fitness center and gym on Friday evenings and Saturdays. The 36-member board of the Rockland JCC in West Nyack voted overwhelmingly to remain open on Shabbat, the Journal-News reported.

Maryland Senate committee passes Holocaust disclosure bill

A bill requiring recipients of state contracts to fully disclose their ties to any operation responsible for transporting people to Nazi concentration camps, was passed unanimously by a Maryland state Senate committee. The Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee approved the bill, aimed at the French rail company known as SNCF, on March 3. The full state Senate is scheduled to take up the measure this week. A state House committee also heard testimony last week.

Write ‘Free Palestine’ on currency campaign starts

A new campaign to peacefully promote an independent Palestinian state calls on people to write \”Free Palestine\” on Israeli currency. The campaign was launched on Facebook over the weekend and has gained attention worldwide, according to reports, which say it is likely that \”Free Palestine\” will be written on other countries\’ currencies as well. Israeli shekels are used in the West Bank and Gaza.

Outpost evacuation handled appropriately, Israeli probe finds

Israeli police forces acted appropriately and proportionately in evacuating a West Bank outpost, a police investigation found. The investigation released Sunday found that last week\’s demolition of three illegal structures at the Gilad Farm outpost in the northern West Bank, which led to settler protests throughout the West Bank and Jerusalem, was carried out in a \”proportional, restrained and professional\” manner, according to reports.

School’s suit over Kohl’s contest is tossed

A lawsuit filed by a Florida school against two Jewish day schools in the state over a national online contest sponsored by Kohl\’s was dismissed. A judge in Broward County, Fla., dismissed the suit on March 3, saying that the owners of the Abi\’s Place school for disabled children could not prove that it had an official deal with the Hebrew Academy Community School and Rohr Bais Chaya Academy to help Abi\’s win votes.
