A first look at the Simpsons’ upcoming visit to Israel

The first images from the upcoming episode of The Simpsons, in which the animated family visits Israel, were released this week after six months of\nbuzz over the special show to be aired in the United States on March 28.\n\nThe episode, titled \”The Greatest Story Ever D\’ohed,\” includes scenes of Homer and Bart at the Western Wall with their Israeli tour guide, who will be voiced by British comedian Sascha Baron Cohen, of Borat and Bruno fame.

Czech Republic: Doctors’ Group Apologizes to Jews

A Czech doctors’ organization apologized to Jewish doctors Thursday for the persecution they endured in pre-World War II Czechoslovakia, an official of the organization said. In October 1938, before the Nazis invaded, organizations of Czechoslovak doctors, lawyers and others issued a memorandum urging the government “to take energetic measures” to prevent Jews from practicing. “We apologize for what our predecessors did to you,” stated a document by the Czech Medical Chamber in Prague. Many Jewish doctors lost their jobs when the government banned them from working in state institutions. The Czech bar association issued a similar apology a year ago.

No Netanyahu-Obama meeting on schedule

A meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama has not been scheduled.\n\nObama administration officials pushed back against a Fox News report on Friday that the two leaders would meet in the Oval Office on Tuesday; nothing has been scheduled yet, the officials told JTA.\n\nThe meeting would come after two weeks of tension triggered by Israel\’s announcement of a major housing start in eastern Jerusalem during what was supposed to have been a friendly visit by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Quartet condemns east Jerusalem building

The \”Quartet\” guiding the Middle East peace process condemned Israeli building in eastern Jerusalem but called for a resumption of talks without preconditions.\n\nThe statement issued Friday morning by the grouping, which comprises the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations, suggested frustration with both Israel and the Palestinians.\n

ADL: Petraeus testimony ‘counterproductive’

The Anti-Defamation League said a top U.S. general\’s analysis of the role of the Israeli-Arab conflict in frustrating the U.S. mission in the Middle East was \”dangerous and counterproductive.\”\n\nGen. David Petraeus, in Senate testimony this week, outlined a number of areas that impeded U.S. interests in the Central Command, the area that he commands and that includes the Middle East.\n

Netanyahu makes Clinton an offer

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined for U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton actions he could take to \”improve the atmosphere,\” the State Department said.
