Why Orange County Matters

This is the fourth special Orange County section that The Journal has produced this year. Despite our brief and unsuccessful entry into Orange County two years ago, we decided that the community there is too vibrant, and too important not to serve.

Redefining Aliyah

Here\’s my suggestion for a new definition for aliyah — anytime a Jew takes it upon him or herself to travel to Israel, for a week, a month, a year or a lifetime, it should be considered the fulfillment of a mitzvah, an obligation to God and to the Jewish People.

George Konheim, philanthropist, business entrepreneur and a pillar of the Los Angeles Jewish community, died Saturday, Dec. 8, at the age of 84.
