Iran will attend ‘12 Olympics despite ‘revolting’ logo
Iran said it will attend the 2012 Olympics in London despite its protest of the Games\’ logo, which it says spells the word Zion. Bahram Afsharzadeh, the secretary general of Iran\’s National Olympic Committee, on Sunday told Iran\’s Press-TV that \”we will participate and play gloriously in the London games.\” His comments came after British Prime Minister David Cameron told the British community weekly Jewish News over the weekend that Iran is \”completely paranoid\” over the logo.
Abbas denounces West Bank murders on Israel Radio
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called the killing of five members of a West Bank Jewish family \”despicable,\” \”inhuman and immoral.\” \”A human being is not capable of something like that,\” Abbas said in Arabic during an interview Monday morning on Israel Radio. Iran is protesting the logo for the 2012 Olympic Games, saying it spells the word \”Zion.\” Mohammad Aliabadi, head of Iran\’s National Olympic Committee, accused the British Olympic organizers of \”racism\” in a letter to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge, the Iranian ILNA news agency reported, according to news agencies.

Vancouver Jews gearing up for the Games
Shmuel Birnham\’s road from Vancouver rabbi to official Jewish clergyman of the 2010 Winter Olympics began, in all places, at an interfaith service with the Dalai Lama.\n\nDuring the Tibetan leader\’s 2004 visit to Vancouver, Hong Chian, a local Buddhist doctor, invited Birnham to be one of the Jewish representatives at the service. When the Olympics rolled around, Chian, who serves on the multifaith committee for the Olympics, called on Birnham again — this time to head up the team of Jewish clergy providing spiritual support services to visiting athletes.\n\nIt has made Birnham the semi-official rabbinic leader of the 2010 Winter Games.
