Theodore Bikel, folk singer, actor, liberal activist, Zionist and multilinguist, died of natural causes July 21 at the UCLA Medical Center. He was 91.

In theory, I was supposed to meet the great Theodore Bikel because of the tribute concert celebrating his 90th birthday coming up on June 16 at the Saban Theatre.

Now in its fifth year, Laemmle Theatres hosts a Christmas Eve sing-along screening of “Fiddler on the Roof,” Norman Jewison’s 1971 film adaptation of the long-running Broadway musical.
