What do Israelis think about the US?
A new poll by the Anti-Defamation League and the Begin Sadat Center at Bar Ilan University asks Israelis about a range of issues, including US-Israel ties, Obama and Romney.
Israelis view President Obama with increasing suspicion. Since 2009, the percentage of Israelis who view him “positively” has dropped sharply from 54 to 32 percent, while the percentage of Israelis who view him “very unfavorably” has risen from 14 to 23 percent.
That’s It For Egypt’s So-Called Transition
The latest ploy by the Egyptian military to maintain its grip on power seems like an act of desperation rather than the final piece in a series of set moves, writes Marc Lynch in Foreign Policy.
Weeks before the SCAF’s scheduled handover of power, Egypt now finds itself with no parliament, no constitution (or even a process for drafting one), and a divisive presidential election with no hope of producing a legitimate, consensus-elected leadership. Its judiciary has become a bad joke, with any pretence of political independence from the military shattered beyond repair.
