Where’s the kosher beef? It could be South Dakota

A large kosher slaughterhouse and processing plant is being planned for South Dakota. A spokesman for First American Farms told the Sioux City Journal that the company was eyeing a 300- to 400-acre location in rural Union County for a kosher beef facility.

GOP Senate freshmen pledge support for Israel

The vast majority of Republican freshmen in the U.S. Senate have signed on to a letter committing to current levels of defense assistance to Israel. Among the 13 freshmen, 11 have signed the letter initiated by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to the party\’s Senate leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Pressure Iran, Netanyahu tells Merkel

World leaders should pressure Iran just as they do other countries with emerging democratic movements, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in Berlin. Netanyahu met Thursday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in talks described by the two leaders as friendly, constructive and sometimes controversial. Topics on the table included the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Iran\’s belligerence and the popular protests occurring throughout the Arab world, including the current civil war in Libya.

Quebec grocery store removes, puts back Star of David

A grocery store in southwestern Quebec returned a Star of David over a display of Passover products after removing it following a customer\’s complaint. The Metro grocery store in Westmount was ordered Sunday by the chain\’s head office to remove the Star of David over the Passover display after a customer complained that it was religious propaganda. But it put back the star Tuesday after about a dozen phone calls from angry local customers, according to the Montreal Gazette.

Hamas official targeted in Sudan attack, Palestinians say

The target of an airstrike on a car in Sudan blamed on Israel was a high-ranking Hamas official, Palestinian intelligence officials said. One of the men killed in Tuesday\’s attack was Abdul-Latif Ashkar, who coordinated weapons smuggling for Hamas and was the successor of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh, the Hamas official assassinated in a Dubai hotel room in January 2010, the Palestinian news agency Ma\’an reported Thursday
