Palestinian prisoner ends 66-day hunger strike

A Palestinian held in an Israeli jail without charge agreed to end his 66-day hunger strike. Khader Adnan, 33, ended the hunger strike Tuesday after the State Prosecutor\’s Office agreed that it would not renew his administrative detention, which is set to end on April 17.

The severe harassment of Palestinian journalists by Palestinian Authority and Hamas forces in the West Bank and Gaza has had a chilling effect on freedom of expression, a new report by Human Rights Watch found. The 35-page report issued Wednesday documents cases in which Palestinian security forces tortured, beat and arbitrarily detained journalists in the West Bank and Gaza, in addition to confiscating their equipment and preventing them from leaving the Palestinian enclaves.

Jailed Palestinian engineer denies knowledge of Shalit

A Palestinian engineer secretly captured in Ukraine and jailed in Israel denies having any knowledge of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Didar Abu Sisi, a Gaza electric power plant engineer, has been held in an Israeli prison for more than a month after being arrested in Ukraine by Israeli agents. Sisi, 42, reportedly was visiting Ukraine with his Ukraine-born wife and their six children in order to apply for Ukrainian citizenship.

Rocket from Gaza injures Israeli girl

An Israel teenager was injured when a Kassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded near a kindergarten in a western Negev kibbutz. In addition to the 14-year-old girl, who was on her way to school, an adult living on Kibbutz Zikim near Ashkelon also was hurt by shrapnel from the blast. Four others were treated for shock, according to a statement from the Israeli military. Ten children were in the kindergarten when the rocket struck about 20 feet away.\n

Hamas would honor peace treaty with Israel, leader says

Hamas will honor a peace treaty with Israel if the results of a Palestinian referendum approve the deal, said the group\’s leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh. Haniyeh said during a rare news conference Wednesday in the Gaza Strip that Hamas would \”accept a Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital, the release of Palestinian prisoners and the resolution of the issue of refugees,\” Reuters reported.
