People like Oskar Schindler, Raoul Wallenberg and the Bielski brothers immediately come to mind, having been the subjects of books and movies such as “Schindler’s List” and “Defiance.”

The lyrical, brutally honest book recreates her youthful musings — echoing the most famous of the Holocaust diarists, Anne Frank.
\”He was a satyr, a black marketeer, a drunk and a savior.\”\nThe pithy description by author Thomas Keneally refers, of course, to Oskar Schindler, the flawed but ultimately heroic German businessman who saved his 1,200 Jewish employees during the Holocaust.
