JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli fighter planes struck what the Israel Defense Forces identified as Hamas “terror targets” in retaliation for a rocket fired on southern Israel.

The rocket was fired on Israeli territory on Friday night. It landed in an open area and no damage or casualties were reported. About two hours later military projectiles that were not rockets were fired from Gaza on Israeli territory.

The retaliation came early on Saturday morning, striking a Hamas military compound in northern Gaza, according to the IDF.

Earlier on Friday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the stomach by Israeli troops and killed while demonstration on the Gaza border with Israel. Official demonstrations on the border had been ordered canceled earlier in the week by protest organizers, but some took place anyways.
