Allan Houston, a former All-Star with the New York Knicks and now their assistant general manager, was awarded State of Israel Bond\’s 2011Martin Luther King Award. Ido Aharoni, acting consul general of Israel in New York, presented the award Wednesday on the court at Madison Square Garden before the Knicks played the Atlanta Hawks.
Jewish soccer team suspended for non-Jewish ringers
A soccer team was suspended from a Jewish-only league in London after fielding non-Jewish players under false names. A referee in the Maccabi Southern Football League became suspicious when two players for the Holy Mount Zion team, who were registered under Jewish-sounding names, were called by other names by their teammates, The Telegraph reported.
Palestinians say U.N. resolution will get vote
Backed by Arab states, the Palestinians are pressing ahead with a United Nations Security Council resolution that slams Israel for settlement building. The Palestinian delegation said Thursday that it had the votes to bring the resolution to the U.N. Security Council for a vote the next day.

Israeli troops kill 3 nearing security fence
Israeli soldiers shot and killed three Palestinians in Gaza who were approaching the security fence in an attempt to plant explosive devices, the Israeli military said. The Israeli military said the men were approaching the fence in the northern Gaza Strip.
Syria-bound Iranian warships stop in Red Sea
Two Iranian warships bound for Syria withdrew a request to sail through the Suez Canal. The ships stopped Thursday in an area near the Saudi Arabian Red Sea port city of Jiddah after reportedly withdrawing the request. Other reports suggested that the ships never requested permission to cross through the canal.
In Bahrain, at least 3 killed, 231 hurt as army cracks down on protests
The Bahraini army seized control of key parts of capital Manama on Thursday and banned gatherings, after a riot police raid on a protest camp left at least three people dead, 231 wounded and 60 more missing.
