Artist of all trades Woody Allen focuses tonight on that latter occupation. He and his crew, a.k.a. Woody Allen and his New Orleans Jazz Band, perform in a rare large venue appearance at UCLA’s Royce Hall as part of their first North American tour.

Kudos to Poppa’s Kitchen for giving us a Chanukah CD that feels modern and kitsch-free. “A Rockin’ Hanukkah” offers up eight tracks — some sweet, some bluesy, some cheerful, but none cloying — for our Fest o’ Lights. They also perform live at Genghis Cohen on Dec. 16.<br />

Stay up really late to support Avi Liberman, who appears on the “Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” tonight. The Israeli-Texan comedian has done stand-up in cities nationwide, as well as in Israel, where he organized comedy tours during the second intifada. This is his most convenient venue yet. Just tune in to sample his latest best few minutes of shtick. </p>

You rocked it Monday; today, “Hanukkah Swings!” Cantor and performer Kenny Ellis lends pop, jazz and big band stylings to old holiday favorites like “The Dreidel Song” and “Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah” in his popular CD. This week, he makes the rounds around town. You can catch him live at Herzog Wine Cellars in Oxnard on Dec. 17, the Westlake Promenade on Dec. 18 and tonight at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills. </p>

For his 90th birthday, Morris Applebaum wants nothing more than to go out, literally, in style. The widower, and soon-to-be nonagenarian has called his children together for a party, to be directly followed by his suicide. Peter Falk plays Applebaum in the darkly comedic film, “Checking Out,” which is based on the Broadway play by Allen Swift. Laura San Giacomo and Judge Reinhold costar. It’s out on DVD this week. </p>
