A woman’s world?

It’s hard to tell, what with the requisite girdles, supervised weigh-ins and protocol panty hose (“not too dark; this isn’t a cabaret”), that the 1960s world depicted in “Pan Am” is supposed to be about the era’s most worldly women.

Rabbi loses title on ‘Jeopardy!’

Rabbi Joyce Newmark failed to defend her title on the television game show \”Jeopardy!\” Newmark, a Conservative rabbi and a member of Congregation Beth Sholom in Teaneck, N.J., lost on a show aired Tuesday night after easily defeating two other opponents the previous night and winning $29,200.

What is “Rabbi who won big at Jeopardy?” (Clue: Joyce Newmark)

Jews have a reputation for answering a question with a question. That might help explain Rabbi Joyce Newmark’s big news — she is now a “Jeopardy!” champion. In an episode of the television game show aired Monday, Newmark had no problem defeating two other contestants and finishing with $29,200.

‘House’ cast gets taste of Israeli medicine

On television Lisa Edelstein, a star of the hit Fox show “House,” and her fellow actors work medical miracles every episode. But at an Israeli hospital she stumbled trying her hand at simulated arthroscopic surgery. “I’m so glad this is not a living person,” she said Wednesday, shifting the controls over a robotic dummy, eyes fixed on a computer screen that revealed her would-be patient’s internal organs. “I think I just mangled its liver.”

Fox pulls version of Israeli sitcom

Fox pulled the sitcom \”Traffic Light,\” a version of the Israeli show \”Ramzor,\” due to poor ratings. The show\’s 13th and last episode will be aired May 17. Fox bought the rights to the show, about three longtime friends and their romantic relationships, last year. Producers in Russia, France and Italy also bought the rights to the show.

B’tayavon, Tony

Television is littered with lousy food shows. I know I risk sounding like some grumpy old coot wondering whatever happened to Jack Paar, but I do wonder what the spirit of the great Julia Child would make of the utter mediocrity, the sheer lack of aspiration, the game show approach and personality-driven fluff that has become the norm in food TV. Thank God for Anthony Bourdain.

Israel\’s Cabinet has ordered the demolition of all illegal West Bank outposts built on private Palestinian land by the end of the year. Monday\’s decision, echoing one announced earlier this month, comes in response to a petition submitted by Peace Now to the Supreme Court calling for the demolition of six outposts: Ramat Gilad, Mitzpe Yitzhar, Givat Har\’eh, Givat Asaf, Ma\’aleh Rehavam and Mitzpeh Lachish.
