We must stop seeing disability as a deficit to overcome. We must acknowledge people with disabilities as equal members of society with the rights and options to participate in all aspects of it.
One of us happens to be blind and the other does not have a disability, but we both want the same thing: a world where people with disabilities are valued, included, have opportunities and belong.
If you had told me 50 years ago that there would be a camp where disabled children were embraced, I would have told you that was crazy talk.
If an organization’s goal is to establish one inclusive month on an annual basis, I think they have missed the point.
