Soon after their engagement, Rosie and Abe Finkelstein, residents of the Tel Aviv suburb of Givatayim, checked out some hotels and traditional event halls but ultimately chose a kibbutz as the venue for their wedding.
The minute Rosie Finkelstein, a holistic healer, viewed the catering facilities at Kibbutz Havat Ronit, located next to the better-known Kibbutz Ga\’ash in the center of the country, she knew it was the right place for her nuptials.
Israel’s teacher strike highlights cracks in the system

David Graniewitz is one of the more than 40,000 Israeli teachers taking part in a strike launched by the Secondary School Teachers Organization (SSTO) on Oct. 10 to demand higher wages and better working conditions. Organizers say the strike, which is affecting some 400 junior high schools and 1,200 high schools in the Jewish sector according to the Ministry of Education, could end tomorrow or last for months.

Despite these traditional touches, this wedding was not performed by an Orthodox rabbi, and therefore not registered by the Chief Rabbinate, which has sole authority over Jewish marriage in Israel.
