Letters to the Editor: Schulweis, God’s Road Rage, JCCs
Thank you for today’s column. I wish I could have heard it [Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis’ speech], but reading about it was wonderful (“Because You Suffer…,” March 8). Old is good, and older is perhaps even better. Again, thank you.
Letters to the Editor: Oscars, LimmudLA, Prager
As a working lawyer and a practicing comic, I have to remark at the irony that on the 50th anniversary of Betty Friedan’s groundbreaking “The Feminine Mystique” (“‘All That I Am I will Not Deny,’” March 1), David Suissa (“Jews Can’t Take Love,” March 1) mentioned 21 male comics (the Marx Brothers were four) and only two female comics. I’m sure Mr. Suissa could have Googled for more female names if he wanted to present a more balanced census in 5773/2013.
Letters to the Editor: Prager, vocational skills, BDS movement, SpaceIL
In a recent article, Dennis Prager wrote an oversimplified and sweeping criticism of self-esteem (“Behavior Matters Most,” Feb. 15). He claims that self-esteem promotes the idea that feelings are more important than actions.
Letters to the Editor: Military rape, second amendment, slain doctor, Chuck Hagel
I’ve taught sexual harassment prevention in the private and public sectors as an outside trainer for 20 years (“A visible war against military rape,” Feb. 8). I felt good about what I did because I educated and dissuaded potential perpetrators and empowered women to exercise their rights. But I knew I hadn’t done enough and the problem persisted. I knew the military had not addressed this human rights issue. I didn’t know how, who or what would ever bring about the necessary changes to eradicate this horror of abuse, excuse, accusation and “exoneration.” Thank you for this monumental contribution toward gender equity and human dignity.
Letters to the Editor: Bill Kristol and his Emergency, Bigotry in AJU Ad?
Congratulations to Rob Eshman on a superb piece explaining clearly why Bill Kristol and his Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI) not only do not help Israel, but are harmful to her interests (“Emergency?” Feb. 1). His thoughtful explanation is comprehensive, clear and completely accurate. In fact, I have spoken with a number of Israeli leaders across the political spectrum who have expressed to me exactly what Eshman stated in his thoughtful piece.
Letters to the Editor: Nazis, Shabbat, Torah
At the risk of engaging Dennis Prager’s considerable wrath, I find it necessary to defend Michael Tolkin’s comments regarding Prager’s arguments on God and murder (“Did the Nazis Like Life?” Jan. 18).
Letters to the Editor: Zionism, Elliott Broidy, Chuck Hagel, Howard Berman
Thank you for the wonderful article by Tom Doran (“Why I Am a Zionist,” Jan. 11) in which he explains how one can leave the hate-filled, destructive thuggery of the left by using common sense and appreciating “the discrepancies between reality and the dogma” propagated by the left. Of course, this requires obtaining the “certain details [that have] a way of going missing on their way into [mainstream media] print.”
Letters to the Editor: Murder, USAID, Menches
The reason I can’t accept the foundation for Dennis Prager’s argument is that it relies exclusively on secondhand testimony (“Why Is Murder Wrong?” Dec. 14). Hearsay.
Letters to the Editor: Prager on murder, Spiritual care, Christmas Mitzvah, Seeking former students
It is quite something to read Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion dean Joshua Holo’s caricature Dennis Prager as reckless, heedless, gratuitously hostile and a provocateur “painting in broad strokes of facile caricature” (Letters, Dec. 21), when that is precisely what he, not Prager, does.
