The words “for the many not the Jew” was found written in black marker across an electric box on California State University Fullerton’s campus on Tuesday.
The graffiti is an apparent reference to the U.K. Labour Party’s mantra, “For the many, not the few,”; the party has come under recent criticism for being plagued with anti-Semitism.
The electric box was cleaned of the graffiti shortly after law enforcement was notified about it; the investigation is ongoing and there are no reported leads as of publication time.
“We will not tolerate these kinds of hateful, criminal acts in or around our campus community,” University President Fram Virjee said in a statement.
Fullerton’s Hillel President Isaiah Kuli Nieto-Goldman told The Daily Titan that he was concerned that the graffiti is “close to me and it’s still showing up in places that I need to be in.”
Zac Coleman, the president of the campus Alpha Epsilon Pi and treasurer of the campus Hillel, told the Orange County Register, “It’s scary that even here on campus, we are not safe any more, and have to worry about anti-Semitism.”
Anti-Semitic graffiti has also been recently found at Beth Jacob Synagogue in Irvine.
