Bye Bye, iPhone!

“If Apple is serious about its future growth relying on software and services, should Tim Cook be going ‘all-in’, sacrifice some of its walled gardens, and ensure that Apple’s popular services are available on every platform to promote growth?

Following Apple’s profits warning earlier this month, CEO Tim Cook stressed Apple’s changing approach and the new emphasis on software and services in place. But Apple’s current ethos needs to change if it is to deliver volume demanded by Wall Street to match expectations of growth.

There are approaches that offer this to Apple, and others that limit Apple’s potential. Let’s start with the music side of things. Apple Music is no longer tied to the iPhone. You can jump around devices and platforms, still access the service, and Apple can count each customer as valuable, no matter where they came from. In terms of non-iOS installs, Apple Music has picked up over 10 million installs on Android, according to Google Play.”
