Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani can be seen kissing the forehead of a preacher who called Jews “apes and pigs” in a lesson published by the Qatari newspaper Al-Arab May 14.

According to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradawi said that the Jews “deserve Allah’s wrath” for being “hostile towards the Prophet [Muhammad]” due to “falsity, love of this world, following urges, blind fanaticism, arrogance, or jealousy.” Al-Qaradawi then cites a section from the Qur’an that reads, “Those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of Taghut – these are worse in position and further astray from the sound way.”

Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Washington Director for International Affairs David Weinberg pointed out on Twitter that Al Thani can be seen in on Qatari television kissing Al-Qaradawi’s forehead at around the same timeframe Al-Qaradawi’s comments were published:

Weinberg also noted that Al Thani can be seen kissing Al-Qaradawi’s forehead on prior occasions:

Al-Qaradawi “is considered a leading ideologue of the Muslim Brotherhood and has been protected and supported by the Qatari regime for many years,” per MEMRI. Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have all sanctioned Al-Qaradawi over his ties to the Qatar regime.

The Qatari government, according to the ADL, promulgates anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in their state textbooks and has frequently “hosted numerous anti-Semitic hate preachers.”
