Real esate tycoon Malik Riaz and his Bahria Town are going ahead with the construction of a flyover and underpasses in Clifton. Here I will be updating a timeline of events surrounding this controversy.
Here is the timeline:
Answer No. 1: Bahria and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation say they have the reports and studies
Problem No. 2: The centuries-old Hindu temple at the site and the colonial-era and Parsi-donated Jehangir Kothari Parade and bandstand risk extensive damage from the construction work
Answer No. 2: Bahria mantains it is working 200ft from the sites.
On April 11, the Sindh High Court lifted its stay order on the construction. Bahria appears to have won so far. It has argued that it is working on KMC land and not DHA's. DHA had filed a petition against the projects – but now it appears it doesn't have any legs to stand on.
The next hearing is April 22.
