RAMALLAH, WEST BANK – MAY 15: Israeli Army soldiers seen during clashes with Palestinian youths during Nakba day on May 15, 2014 near the Qalandia checkpoint at the outskirts of Ramallah, the West Bank. Palestinians mark Israel’s establishment in 1948 with ‘Nakba’ or ‘catastrophe’ day on May 15, to remember the thousands of Palestinians who fled or were expelled during the creation of the Jewish state and the subsequent war. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shot and killed a Palestinian teenager on Feb. 5 after the teenager allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at IDF soldiers.

The IDF said in a statement, “During a violent riot that took place a short time ago in the city of Hebron, IDF troops spotted a Palestinian throwing a Molotov cocktail at them. They responded with live fire in order to remove the threat.”

The Palestinian has been identified as Mohammed al-Waddad, 17. Al-Waddad was pronounced dead after being hospitalized from taking a bullet to the chest, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The IDF added in its statement that Palestinians have taken part in several violent protests over the past few days in Hebron. The IDF has been on heightened alert for violence in the West Bank since the release of President Donald Trump’s peace plan on Jan. 28.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ ruling party Fatah wrote on its Facebook page on Jan. 30, “Down with the deal of the century. Palestine is not a homeland that is sold and purchased but rather a piece of the Quran that we will defend with [our] blood and souls.”
