The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles has awarded three L.A. rabbis the chance to participate in a prestigious three-year fellowship with the Shalom Hartman Institute in Israel.

“Welcome to the house of Hebrew University in Beverly Hills,” said Hebrew University President Menahem Ben-Sasson at the opening of the Jan. 16 American Friends of Hebrew University (AFHU) dinner gala honoring architect Frank Gehry.

The city’s top Jewish lay leaders, professionals, rabbis, heads of organizations, and political leaders packed into the Cotsen Auditorium at the Skirball Cultural Center on Dec. 2 to give a giant group hug to John Fishel, who this month ends a nearly 18-year tenure as president and CEO of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.

Despite a tense giving environment, the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust reported a 50 percent increase in attendance at their second annual fundraising dinner, which took place at The Beverly Hills Hotel on Nov. 8.
