Of Time, and a Father’s First Century

My father understands unwinnable conflicts. He has been fighting a personal war against time since 1911. \”Where does the time go?\” he is likely even now to be wondering out loud to a stack of magazines and mail he has yet to get to, but will.

Letter from Jerusalem

Condolence visits are part of a rabbi\’s life, but no one ever taught us how to make nine visits in a 48-hour period. We arrived in Israel on the morning of Tuesday, March 11, and left Israel the following night. Our mission, representing the Rabbinical Council of America, was to express solidarity with the families of the victims of the terror attack at yeshivat Mercaz Harav, comfort the injured in the hospitals and visit the yeshiva.

This led her to Tel Aviv\’s Date School, the only psychotherapy-based dating program in Israel — and perhaps the world — which literally teaches people how to be more effective, self-aware and informed daters.

Far From Home

Amotz Zakai is vice president of production and manager at Echo Lake Productions, an independent film company that has produced films like \”Tsotsi\” and \”Water.\” Needless to say, Zakai is very busy right now. But when the 33-year-old Israeli American dual citizen heard about the fighting in Israel, he immediately called his army commander to see if he should return to Israel to serve.
