Toledo’s only day school closing

The only Jewish day school in Toledo, Ohio, is closing at the end of the school year due to a lack of enrollment. The David S. Stone Hebrew Academy will shut down when the school year ends next week, the Toledo Blade reported.

Schechter Institute strike affects spring semester

Employees of Jerusalem\’s Schechter Institute for Jewish Studies are striking over a salary dispute. The strike at the Conservative movement\’s institution has been in place since the beginning of the month. The strike affects only the institute\’s Israeli students. The overseas program, made up of students from the Jewish Theological Seminary, is exempt from the strike.

Opinion: Here we go again—UC Irvine’s annual propoganda parade

Here we go again. It’s spring, and for the Muslim Student Union (MSU) at UC Irvine (UCI), spring means it’s time for the MSU’s annual weeklong propaganda parade of hate programs against Israel and calls for punishing it with boycotts and divestment. Forget the real Arab spring, during which masses of people have been risking their lives to demonstrate against dictatorial rule. The MSU is obsessed with only one issue: convincing students that the democratic state of Israel is evil, has no right to exist, and should be punished and dismantled.

Tuition grants, endowments to benefit day schools

More than half the students in Los Angeles Jewish day schools receive financial aid to pay tuition, which runs between $12,000 and $30,000 per year. And with both tuition and the number of students requiring aid expected to continue climbing, BJE: Builders of Jewish Education is partnering with local donors and national organizations both to alleviate the immediate crisis and work toward long-term solutions for lowering the cost of Jewish education.

CU-Boulder gets $2 million endowed chair in Jewish history

The University of Colorado at Boulder has announced the establishment of a $2 million endowed chair in Jewish history. The gift was made by sisters and CU-Boulder alumnae Midge Korczak and Leslie Singer Lomas in honor of their late father, Louis P. Singer.

Jerusalem center receives $12.5 million grant to launch college

Jerusalem’s Shalem Center said it has received a $12.5 million challenge grant in its effort to establish what the center is billing as Israel’s first liberal arts college. The gift, from the New York-based Tikvah Fund, will match other donations during the college’s first four years up to $12.5 million.
