The High Note

Sometimes I cry in temple when I hear a man singing off key. Something about it is so human, fragile, humble. Heaven loves voice crackings.

“I always wanted to do the opening of ‘Non Nobis Domine’ but I couldn’t make the high note. I never sang anything solo,” he said.

But I’m sure every top note resounds in the heavens as the coolest, most prayerful song ever. I’m sure of it, for your broken need . . . it breaks my ears opens and softens my heart immediately, and I think, “this must be heaven.”
