A Moment in Time: That Moment of Transformation

[additional-authors]
May 16, 2019
Dear all,
Eric has been preparing to become a rabbi for years at the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. The culmination of his studies occurred In May, 2019 when he was ordained along with his classmates.
I had the honor of presenting him at this sacred occasion.
There is a moment of smicha/ the laying of the hands that marks the transformation, bestowing the title of Rabbi. And that moment in time is incredible.
We all experience moments of transformation. While it may be earning a title, it could also be something quite simple:
Aha! moments.
Moments of reckoning.
Moments of truth.
Moments of self-discovery.
That moment when you throw a ball in the air, and it is neither ascending nor descending.
A moment when the first light of the sun illuminates the horizon.

What will your moment of transformation be this week? And more important, how will recognizing that moment inspire you to live with deeper purpose?
With love and shalom,
Rabbi Zach Shapiro
