A Moment in Time: “How Might American Jewish Heritage Month Motivate Me?“
In 2006, President George W. Bush proclaimed May to be “American Jewish Heritage Month.”
A change in perspective can shift the focus of our day - and even our lives. We have an opportunity to harness "a moment in time," allowing our souls to be both grounded and lifted. This blog shows how the simplest of daily experiences can become the most meaningful of life's blessings. All it takes is a moment in time.
Rabbi Zach Shapiro is the Spiritual Leader of Temple Akiba, a Reform Jewish Congregation in Culver City, CA. He earned his B.A. in Spanish from Colby College in 1992, and his M.A.H.L. from HUC-JIR in 1996. He was ordained from HUC-JIR - Cincinnati, in 1997.

While some of my colleagues are second and third generation rabbis, my journey took a different road.
From the youngest age, we encourage questions more than answers, explorations more than conclusions, and journeys more than destinations.
This year, I focus on the ritual of opening the door for Elijah.
Our family visited the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History last weekend.
My gosh – the possibilities to change the world when we reach out to one another….
Perhaps if we take a moment in time to try on a new lens, a new perspective … we can create opportunities for shared visions.
It probably won’t snow in LA again for another 35 years. So where will you find your wonderment in noticing the beauty of nature?
