Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, who co-created “Seinfeld,” are headed off to Broadway together. Possibly.
In a conversation with Showbiz 411, David (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) said that he has written a play, and he hints that Seinfeld–who has been busy as of late on the press circuit, with the second season of his web series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” currently underway–will star in it.
According to the Jan. 11 column by the entertainment news site:
Larry [David], whose hilarious HBO movie “Clear History” I just re-watched, told me: “I’ve written a play.” A play? For, like, Broadway? “Yes.” And Jerry would star in it? “Maybe,” he said. “We’re talking about it.”
A play by David would continue his streak of branching out from television writing. His latest effort, “Clear History,” was a full-length film that premiered on HBO last year.
No word on when David's “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” his most successful project since “Seinfeld” ended, will return for a ninth season.
The Showbiz article follows up on a news-making statement that Seinfeld made during a recent Reddit “Ask Me Anything” intervew. Seinfeld said that he and David “wrote this script for this thing that you will eventually see but I can't reveal what it is at this time. All I can do is tell you is that it's big, huge, gigantic.”
Is this mysterious project one-and-the-same as David's play? Today, Vulture.com pointed out that the Showbiz piece “doesn't say outright if this [the play] is what Seinfeld was alluding to.”
