Eli Boyer, community leader dies at 92

Eli Boyer, community leader and philanthropist, died Sept. 4 at 92.

Born in Boyle Heights to Rose and Elijah Herman Bojarksy, Boyer earned his accounting and CPA degrees at the University of California, Los Angeles. He joined a firm that was later merged into Laventhol & Horwath, where he rose to senior partner. During World War II, Boyer was a decorated captain in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for his work in Greece during and after the war.

A dedicated community activist, Boyer was a member of the national executive committee of the Anti-Defamation League; a national vice chairman of the Large City Budgeting Conference of the Council of Jewish Welfare Divisions; on key committees and the board of directors of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles; vice president of the Brandeis-Bardin Institute; and vice president of Temple Israel of Hollywood. He also served on the advisory council to the mayor for the Department of Water and Power, and on the board of Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary. In 1984, Boyer received the City of Hope Spirit of Life Award. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Michele; daughter Karen; sons Michael (Susan), Jonathan (Julie); and two grandsons.
