Aaron Posner’s play “District Merchants” takes the themes of Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” and sets them in Reconstruction-era Washington, D.C., as two merchants, Antoine and Shylock, and their families struggle to forge new indentities for Blacks and Jews in post-Civil War America.
