Lana Del Rey Cancels Performance in Israel

Has Lana Del Rey bowed to pressure from BDS supporters?

After defending her decision to perform at Israel’s three-day Meteor Festival in a tweet on Aug. 19, the singer has reversed her decision. In a new tweet posted on Friday, she wrote: “It’s important to me to perform in both Palestine and Israel and treat all my fans equally. Unfortunately it hasn’t been possible to line up both visits with such short notice and therefore, I’m postponing my appearance at the Meteor Festival until a time when I can schedule visits for both my Israeli and Palestinian fans as well as hopefully other countries in the region.”

Del Rey was to be the headline act at the festival on Sept. 7 and had already been paid $700,00 for the performance, which will be reimbursed, according to Variety. But the organizers are not pleased about her cancellation. They wrote in a post on the Meteor website,

“Just got the word that Lana will be a no-show at Meteor. We do appreciate her for choosing meteor to help her score some press attention.”

It was to be her first time performing in Israel. She had cancelled a concert before, in 2014.
