The JCCs’ Celebrity Staged Play Readings, produced and directed by Alexandra More, have been going strong for 11 seasons. Consider taking in the first of their 12th season’s selections. The comedy/drama, “Brooklyn Boy,” by Pulitzer-winning author Donald Margulies, plays this weekend, starring Stephen Macht as Eric, a Jewish author in his late 30s grappling with sudden huge success.

<p>It’s all about layering this fall, even at USC Hillel Art Gallery. Now on view is “Diaphanous: An Exhibition by Melinda Smith Altshuler, Rachel Grynberg and Jackie Nach.” The mixed-media works by three female Jewish artists are all multilayered, and explore “states of translucency through time, memory and form.”</p>

<p>Moving insights into Bedouin culture come through the eyes of Bedouins themselves — more specifically, their children — in Venice Arts Gallery’s new exhibition. “Passages Between the Past and the Future” is an exhibit of original photography by children of the Bedouin village Abu Kaf, which participated in a photography class led by Fulbright Fellow Kim Frumin.</p>
<p>“Passages” has previously been shown at various spaces in Israel, and now makes its U.S. premiere.</p>

Morocco’s Jewish and Muslim cultures, and the social and physical spaces they inhabit, are explored in UCLA Fowler Museum’s new exhibition. “Liminal Spaces: Photographs of Morocco by Rose-Lynn Fisher.” It opens this week, with an opening reception Sunday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. It remains on view through Jan. 14.
